In the 1980’s, The Texas DX Society undertook the task of activating every county in the USA. It began innocently enough with activating all 256 Texas counties for the MARAC CW contest in 1983. Then, over the next two years, TDXS activated all of the other counties in the 5th call area during subsequent MARAC CW contests. This became known as the Armadillo Runs.
In 1986, TDXS became an official part of the Texas Sesquicentennial by creating Armadillo County, TX and attempting to activate all US counties over two weekends. The rest, as they say, is history. This photo montage covers the 2006 reunion in Virginia City, NV.
